AT THE COLONIAL INSTITUTE.
LUNCHEON TO VICTORIA’S PREMIER. ONE OF THE JUNIOR PARTNERS. (Received 11.20 a.m.) London, April 2. Earl Grey presided at the Colonial I Institute luncheon to Mr Watt (Premier of Victoria). Amongst those who attended were Lord Emmott, Sir J. G. Ward, Mr Collins and the Agents--1 General. Mr Watt said that Australians wore earnestly developing the country. Their loyalty was unquestioned, and he thought the British press might do more to create a home interest in the junior partners of the Empire. He deprecated the idea that emigrants were lost to the Empire. The men so transplanted strengthened the Empire in every part. He was certain that any diversity of opinion as to the control of the naval limits would disappear in the Empire’s hour of danger.
