Acceptances close on Friday next at 0 p.m. NOTES BY CICERO. The Wellington Racing Club were very fortunate in securing such a good acceptance, when one considers the amount of racing which took place at Faster. Torbelle, if well, will probably see a very short price in tire Hack Steeplechase, and got off at least 101 b too light. Glenfinnan, if only on his Riccarton form, must start favourite in the Waiwetu Handicap. A number of really smart youngsters are engaged in the Plunket Nursery. Historiette (Mason’s) is a really good filly, but up to the present has had nor luck. Dayfly (Ormond’s) has a great private reputation, but should be well tried in this company.. The field in the Thomson Handicap is not up to the same standard as many former years, but nevertheless contains the names of a few good nailers. Emperador is described by good judges as a really first-class colt, and on each and every start of the son of Martian he has borne that out. Potoa, they say, was unlucky in the Auckland Easter, but won in a sensational manner on the second day of that meeting. He is greatly fancied by

his party for the Thompson, and is nicely handicapped. Heatherbrae is the select of a powerful stable. She was badly left in the Easter at Riccarton, eventually finishing fourth, while on the, second day she carried 8.5 to the front in a six-furlong race run in 1.14. Bliss showed a return to form by carrying 9.5 to victory at Waipukurau on Easter Monday. Awahou is well in on the score of weight add will probably run a good race. The contest between Emperador, Heather-, brae and Potoa should be worth witnessing. The race for the Challenge Stakes between Mowbray, Soltano and Night watch should decide the two-year old championship, each claiming their admirers. Nightwatch has steadily improved and at Trehtham may prove what many say he is—a high-class colt. ' A number of good hacks are engaged in the Silverstream Handicap, including a brace of Taranaki performers in Tetikura and Charnanade. Canute, whom Mason says is a fair horse, and was thought good enough to take across to contest the A.J.C. Derby, will be a runner in this race. A number of fast sprinters claim engagements in the Railway, t entnra carried 8.3 and won the Great Easter in holloa' fashion. She'now has only 111 b more. Patronale, 7.3, is greatly fancied by his connections. .Of those in the Tiliakori Handicap Scottish Star will be favourite.

Los Angelos at 360 guineas must be considered a very cheap horse. With the exception of Bobrikoff, the San Francisco gelding is the best handicap horse from a mile to a mile and a half An this, dominion. The chestnut was bought on behalf of Mr Duncan Rutherford, and will be specially trained for hurdle racing by W. Clarke. Mr Rutherford will be best remembered as owner of those good “leppcrs” Ahua, Norton, Kulnine, and later Social Pest, all of which were in the very first flight. Ladoga, who claims an engagement in the Tinakori Handicap, is reported as being very fast, and more than a match for Semaphore, who was very successful in hack race a couple of months ago.

Awaholx has been heavily backed for the Thomson Handicap by his party, and with 7.3 only should run well. At Tauherenikau on Easter Monday, the son of Mahaki carried 9.13 into third place in a five furlong race run in l.li: a really good performance.

It is reported that Bon Ton pulled up lame after,,the Great Autumn. If this is so the St. Leger to he decided at, Trentham, on Saturday should he ns ore open. (

.Recipe, who will he a runner at Trentlvara to-morrow, has been bleeding at the nose lately, and may not, he sden at his best. ( At the A.ustrqlian Jockey ■ Club’s Autumn mepting, E. Murtagh, wellknown ii\ this part of the Dominion, rodo Don Qpejs into fourth |)lace in the First Hurdles. He also steered i T .); 1 4 • f,O ( ,j | : Hautapu into, third place .in the .Steeplechase, while another New Zealander in F. Cress, rode Sir Lethe to victory in the Second Steeplechase. . A ‘‘cast-off” of SirG. Clifford’s,: in Tenterhook (Clanranald —To-morrow) won the Federal Handicap at the Williamstown races, held "dn Easter Monday. At tlid same ’h'ih'dtfng, two New Zealand-fired ones, 'ill Miss Allison (Soult—Miss Nelson/; 1 ‘and Snowfoot (Soult—Helen McGregor), won two races each. At the Sydney Easter Sales, E. J. Watt gave 210 guineas fo‘r a colt by Mountain King from La Veille. At the same sale a colt by Mountain King out of that good mare Isolt, was allowed to go for 80 guineas, While, a half-sister by Antonio to the Great Easter winner, Ventura, brought 530 guineas.
