ASSOCIATION MEETING, Report of a meeting of the, council of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association held at Palmerston North on March 20th and 21st. Present; Messrs W. M. Tapp (chairman), A. H. Halcombe, (Urehui), W. V. Harkness (Stratford), R. 3. Linn (Hawera), W. H. Booth (Middle Run, Carterton), H. E. B. Watson (Christchurch), J. A. McCrea, F. E. Watson (Palmerston North), and J. C. Lane (secretary). In response to several inquiries it was resolved to compile a set of points f f6r judging Jerseys!' . ~/JPhe Taranaki _ Farmers’ Provincial Union wrote in I’espcct to the transfer* and sale 'df-Herd Book stock.—The council decided that the issue of the association’s official transfer form is a sufficient guarantee of , entry. . The Minister of Agriculture wrote saying the representations of the association to keep at the experimental stations a proper record on economic principles of the cost of feeding , and the record of butter-fat for pedigree dairy stock would receive consideration. As thfe letter' was written last December, it was decided to write the Minister asking if a decision had been come to; if not, to emphasise the extreme importance of the request. It was decided on the suggestion of Mr F. S. Mcßae, of Stony Creek, to award a gold l medal to the cow and heifer, scoring : thb highest butter-fat records each ypar for entry in the reregister -of. merit of the association. Owbers of all animals entered in the register of merit’ are to be furnished with a certificate of merit; and a sub-committee—Messrs McCrea, F. E. Watson and the secretary—-was appointed to procure a design. v It was arranged to hold feb annual meeting at Palmerston North during, the winter; show week. The conditions attached to the trophies were as follows: For the best two females in milk entered in tljo New Zealand Jersey pteyd Book, to have calved within previous twelve months of the show, to be won three times, not less than three entries to comp, ete, the judge to be from the association’s list. A report was considered on the increasing size of the annual herd book, showing that since ’ the issue of Volume V. with 257 entries, the book had increased to 1040 for Volume X. and from 135 pages to 334. To meet the cost- of printing it was decided to charge members cost price, which means that Volume X. will be 15s per copy. Herd book fees were also raised. The charge will be: Males 6s each and females 4s; transfers, 2s 6d each; and for non-members double rates. be-

The council > prepared a draught of the rules in revised form for further approval at the annual meeting of the association.

The new issue of the booklet, ‘‘The Jersey for Profit,” was reported ready for issue, to be had on application to the secretary. A large amount of routine work was also dealt with by the council, the meeting lasting for some seven hours.
