STANLEY ROAD SCHOOL.
ANNUAL PICNIC. It was rilost unfortunate that the weather should have been so unfavorable for. the Stanley Road School’s annual picnic, but it takes more than rain to damp the children’s ardour, and the picnic was, weajther notwithstanding, a decided success. Several Stratford people visited the grounds during the afternoon, and there were present also Messrs J. B. Hiiie, M.P., Robert Masters (member* of the Taranaki Education Board), Mr W. Hathaway (Chairman of the Stratford County Council). Mr Hosking’s paddock proved very suitable for the races and other sporting events, and everything went off in good style. The 100yds! (local) was won by F. Botten, with Harris second; and the Open 100 yds. by F. Carroll, with Perrett a good second. F. Davis won the nail driving, and in a similar competition for the ladies, Mrs Botten was first and Hiss Say well second. The sheep guessing competition was Avon by Miss Ladd, avlio guessed within half-a----p mud of the correct weight. The 220 yds. (open) fell to E. Perrett, with F. Botten second. Stepping the Chain event was won by T. A. Lineham. At the close of the picnic Mr J. B. Hine gave a short adddress and distributed prizes among the children.. Much p -aise is due to the ladies who provided a most excellent luncheon.
