While returning from Hawera on Sunday evening by motor cycle ;says the Manaia Witness)., Sergt.-Major Bodle had the misfortune to run into a foal in the vicinity of Ryan’s timber yard, Main South Road, with distressful consequences to his machine and somewhat unpleasant results to himself. The animal, it appears, was following a vehicle driven by a Maori, and skipping suddenly round from the • back of the vehicle and in troni of the motorist, an unavoidable collision followed. The Sergt.-Major received a severe shock as well as slight concussion of the brain, and was taken into a neighbouring house, but he is out and about to-day, showing, however some outward abrasions as the result of the mishap. The impact qf the collision knocked the fruit part of the foal’s head'completely m, and it died soon afterwards.
