WAITARA AWTER CARNIVAL.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Waitara’s Water Carnival and Regatta attracted a good many visitors from other parts of Taranaki yesterday, and a very pleasant day was spent. The Committee and oltiei.ils are to be congratulated on the work done, and arrangements made, and much credit is duo to Mr H. Spurdle, who again undertook the onerous duties of secretary. Results of the competitions are as under: —-
Maiden Whaleboat Race, first prize £3, second £1: one mile and a halt,— Clifton Rowing Club (N. Kyle, stroke, O. Taylor, J. Mann, L. Old, M. Wickham), 1; Waitara Rowing Club ( L. Andrews stroke, J. Telfar, C. Limnier, M. Preston, B. Grimmer!, 2; Waitara Rowing Club No. 2 (J. Bailey stroke, J. King!, Kire, E. Frost and Wi), 3. Won comfortably. Maiden Sculls, of £3, second £l, three-quarters of a mile.— M. Cain (Clifton). The only competitor. Boys’ Whaleboat Race (under 18 years), first prize £3, second £i ; one mile.—Clifton Rowing Club (F. Procter stroke, S. Chatfield, L. Fcek, J. McDonald, G. McKoy), 1; Waitari Rowing Club No. 2 (J. Bailey stroke, E. Frost, Kire, W. Klenuer, R. Pennington), 2. Waitara Rowing Club No. 1 also started. Senior Whaleboat Race, first prize £6, second £1 ; one mile and a half. — Clifton Rowing Club No. 1 (P. Joins stroke, M. Cain, B. Bernsten, F. C Lire, F. Richards), 1 ; Waitara Rowing Club (W. Terrill stroke, H. George, ft. Hicks, Tie, E. Andrews), 2. The only starters. Won easily. Time, ilmin oosec.
Maori Waka Race, first prize £G, second £2 10s; about one mile.— Hereawa (leader Tuohu), 1; Titlui (leader Kapinga), 2. Won easily. Senior Clinker Fours, first prize £6, second prize £1; three-quarters of a mile.—Clifton Rowing Club (F. Richards stroke, J. Cain, M. Cain, A. Bowen). Only starters. Senior Tub Race, first prize 10s, second prize ss.—Clare 1, Klenner 2 Three others started. Won easily. Youths’ Clinker Fours, first .prize £3, second prize £1; about threequarters of a mile.—Chiton Rowing Club No 1 (W. Spurdlo stroke, R. Feck, L. Feek, R. Lawrence), 1; Clifton Rowing Club No. 2 (J. Roach stroke, J. Jones, 0. Mclvoy, L. Brown), 2; Yvaitara Rowing Club No. 1 (E. L. Clare stroke, F. G. McDavitt, E. Johnson, F. L. Smaiil), 3. Vi aitara Rowing Club No. 2 (A. F. Procter stroke) also started. Won very easily. \ Maori War Canoe Race, first prize £l2 and gold medal for leader; second prize £4; about one mile.—Titilii (leader Kaponga), 1; Hereawa (leader Tuohu), 2. The only starters. Won with something in hand. Greasy Boom, first prize 10s.—L. Andrews 1. Five competitors.
Diving Competition, first prize 10? or trophy.—J. Olsen 1. Three other competitors. M aori Canoe Hurdle Race, first prize £4, second £1 10s; about half a mile.—Karepouia 1, Karewao 2. The only starters. Won easily.
Swimming Race Handicap (for youths, under 18), first prize 10s c T trophy; about 100 yards.—l). Tate (osec) 1, F. Klenner (scr) 2, V. Pennington (7sec) 3. Scoolboys’ Swimming 'Race Handicap, first prize 7s 6d, second prize 2s 6d; about 70 yards.—Mackie 1, Bernsten 2, McKenzie 3. The Dinghy Tuglof-War, Barrel Race, and Plate Diving wore abandoned owing to insufficient entne:having been made.
