Westport, March 11. At the Supreme Court, addressing the grand jury, his Honor Justice Edwards defended the grand jury system. It was, lie said, a protection to the liberties of public politics, and had not hitherto intruded into the administration of justice, but it might happen that politics might be allowed to interfere with the grand jury, the members of whom, were representatives of the people. If the system were abolished, the work would bo left in the hands of salaried officers, and grievous justice might possibly be done. It was essential in the interests of justice that representatives of the people should stand between the powers and the people.
