SLAUGHTERMEN’S TEST CASE. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, March 14. An important case arising out of 1 the slaughtermen’s strike is being heard, in the Arbitration Court today. It is an appeal by the Ngahaurangi Slaughtermen’s Industrial Union against the refusal of the Registrar of Labour to grant the union registration under the Act. The old slaughtermen cancelled their registration, and then, as part of their plan of compaign, applied for and were granted registration. Meanwhile the local works carried on with “free” labour, and at Wellington the Meat Export Company’s works at Ngahauranga decided to form a union. Registration was sought for and refused by the Registrar on the ground that these men might conveniently belong to the Wellington Slaughtermen’s Union. The proceedings to-day arc concerned with the important principle and are in J - ■ nature of a test case.
