DRIVES SHIPPING ASHORE
UNROOFS BUILDINGS

A double-headed Antarctic distur bance, which covered the whole of South-eastern Australia yesterday, was one of the most energetic experienced for some time. Two yachts went ashore in the harbour. A ketch manned hy brothers had a portion of the sails carried ’way off the North Head. A tug rescued them. Several buildings were unroofed. The maximum velocity of the gale was sixty miles an hour. Newcastle, March 14. The storm here was one of the severest for some time. There were heavy squalls of rain and hail. The Lambton Eire Station was wrecked, and several roofs were torn off. The velocity of the gale was seventy-five miles. Adelaide, March 14. A violent westerly sent two yachts ashore and these were smashed. The schooner Albatross also sank in fbo gale. The French vessel, General De Sonis, wheat laden, dragged ncr anchors and grounded.
