XEWTOX KIXG’S , WEEKLY REPORT. At Douglas on Friday, 28th February, I held my supplementary sheep fair and cattle sale. There was a very good entry, sheep being yarded much in excess of advertised numbers. Competition throughout was brisk, most lines being cleared at the hammer. The demand for Lincoln rams was unsatisfied. Prices obtained as follows: Mixed weaners £1 7s, 21-year in-calf heifers £4 17s, bulls £4 5s to £5 10s, forward and fat cows £4 6s to £5 12s, store cows £2 11s to £3 15s, best lambs 8s -6d to 9s 6d, failsorts 7s 2d to 7s Bd, culls 3s 6d to os, 2-tooth wethers 13s 6d to 14s 4d, small 12s 6d, small 2-tooth ewes 11s IQd, good f.f.m. ewes up to 12s 3d, f.m. ewes best from 9s to 10s 6d, culls 4s 7d to 7s 2d, 6-tooth ewes 13s 2d, fat and forward ewes 12s to 14s 3d, fat and forward wethers 15s 4d to 16s 3d, 4 and 6-tooth wethers 14s 6d to 15s Id, rams from 2 guineas to 3£ guineas for gotod Lincoln and Romneys.

At Waiwakaiho yards on Monday, 3rd instant, for an off day I.had a very good entry. A choice line of Jersey springing heifers on account of Mr William Peattie of Bell Block sold at from £8 15s to £ll ss, averaging £9 15s; competition for other lines was slack, vendors’ reserves in many oases being too high, consequently many pens were passed. Sales were made at the following rates: Good weaner steers 33s to 36s Cd, Jerseys 8s 6d to 19s, coloured weaner heifers up to £2 13s, grades up to 37s 6d, weeds from 13s to 18s 6d, empty 18-month heifers £2 17s 6d to £3 ss, 15-month steers £2 10s, store cows £2 6s to £3 16s, forward and fat cows £4. 12s 6d to £6 2s, bulls £3 7s 6d to £6 13s, springing heifers £5 ss. For my Stratford sale on Tuesday there’ was a good yarding, most pens being filled. There was a good attendance, but generally bidding was quiet and most lines were passed in, weaners, forward cows and bulls being the exception, competition for the lattoi being very keen. Prices obtained were; Weaner Jersey heifers £3, grades £1 14s 6d to £1 17s 6d, weaner steers up to £1 15s 6d, mixed veaneis £1 11s, 20-month in-calf heifers £3 15s Od, good conditioned bulls up to £9 2s 6d, 2)-year in-calf heifers £4 10s to £4 17s Gd, aged cows £1 Us 6d to £2 Is, store cows £2 17s to £3 12s 6d, forward and fat cows £4 5s to £5 12s 6d, 24-year Jersey steers £3 15s to £3 17s 6d, 3-year bullocks £5 10s, lambs 8s 6d, f.m. ewes /s 6d, rams from U to 2 guineas.

On Wednesday the sth at Stony River yards there was a fair entry with a good attendance. Bidding, whilst not so brisk as at recent sales, was very fair, practically everything being cleared as follows: Holstein weaner heifers £1 8s to £1 14s 6d, small and bad coloured 15s to £1 2s, 18-month empty heifers £2 19s to £3 8s 6d, 20month in-calf heifers £3 15s to £4, Holstein springing heifers £7 2s 6d, bulls up to £8 ss, store cows £2 8s to £3 13s, forward cows £4 5s to £4 8s 6d, fat cows (best) £6 18s to £7 2s, ♦others £5 5s to £5 16s; s.f. plough £5, horse, cart and harness, £l6 ss, slip pigs £7, small woolly lambs Bs. Private sales for the week.—Choice 7 to 9 month Jersey heifers £4 to £5, choice Jersey-Holstein weaner heifers (very strong demand) £2 15s to £3 10s, good grade weaner heifers £1 16s 6d to £2 2s, small £1 12s, 18-month empty heifers £3 10s, 18-month steers £3 10s, bulls £4 4s to £7, 21-year steers £5, store cows £3 10s, forward cows £4 12s Gd. fat cows £5 15s to £6 12s Gd, cows and calves £5 to £5 IQs, line of Shorthorn dairy cows (delivery now) £6, lambs 8s Gd to 10s, fat lambs 13s Gd, fat ewes 13s Gd, fat wethers IGs Gd, 2-tooth wethers 14s to 14s id, f.m. ewes 11s Gd, 6-tooth and f.f.m. ewes 12s Gd, 3-tooth ewes 14s Gd to 16s for a fine line of 300.Southdown ram £5 10s, Romneys and Lincolns 3 to 31 guineas.
