TOKO NOTES.
THE SEASIDE PICNIC. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Tuesday morning last Toko wore a very busy appearance, people coming from all directions and making their way to the station to eatch the train for the seaside picnic. Although rain fell for most of the way going down, it turned out to be a perfect day at New Plymouth. On arrival at the East End Beach, all partook of lunch, as some of the picnickers had a very early breakfast. After lunch the children started off for fun. Some made for the donkeys, some for the swings, see-saw, the ocean wave, etc., while the bigger onces indulged in surf bathing. During the day several games were played, and races for children were run on the beach. Mr and Mrs J.B. Hine were present. Mr George Bain (chairman) and Mr George Morrison were handicappers and starters. Messrs Pratt and Bocock acted as judges. There was also a race for single ladies, which was won by Miss M. Hine, with Miss Jonas second. The Toko School Committee are very thankful to the Toko tradespeople for their kind donations of cases of fruit, lollies, etc., which were distributed to the children on the train. The committee deserve credit for the manner in which everything was carried out.' All had a good day’s outing, and the children are looking forward to next year’s seaside picnic. The Toko Settlers’ picnic and sports annual meeting was held on Friday night and was well attended, Mr W. H. Were presiding. It was arranged that this year’s picnic and sports take place on April 10th, with a ball in the evening. Mr G. E. Bocock was reappointed secretary. A very strong committee was set up and the sports promise to be bigger and better than ever, FARMERS’ UNION COMPETITION. Marfell has kindly donated to the Sports Club a lamb which is a freak of nature, possessing five legs. Mr R. I). Milne, secretary of the Toko Hal! Assembly, has resigned, and Mr H. H. Judd has been appointed to fill the position. SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC. Last Saturday the Toko and Toko Road Sunday Schools held their annual picnic in the Toko Domain. There was a big gathering, including the Rev. Pattison, from Stratford. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent in games, children’s races, lolly-scrambles, etc. The children must have had a real good time judging from the toys they won in races. Mr E. Marfell acted as handicapper and starter. Messrs Were and Bain acted as judges and some fine races wore witnessed. Mr J. B. H ine distributed toys to the children. The ladies provided afternoon tea, which was done full justice to.
