TOUCHED HIS HEART.
An amusing story is being told of Mi J. Pierpont Morgan, the wellknown American financier. Some weeks ago Mr Morgan visited );is dentist, and the lattef, who is as voluahle as the former is reticent, opened the conversation in his usual tactful fashion. “One of the worst cases of destitution f know,” he said, “is that of my wife’s washerwoman’.” “How is that?” asked the famous hanker. “Her husband died and loft her with 13 children, only five of them big enough to work,” the dentist replied. The dentist appears to have proceeded to pile on the agony in a double sense, for next day ho received the following letter:— Dear Doctor,—You hurt mo like the devil yesterday, but your vivid story about the widow and her 13 children was equally effective. Enclosed find my cheque for 10,003 dollars, which please turn over to the washerwoman, and toll her from mo she was a fool to ever have 13 babies.
