The tragedy must have been the result of scurvy or ptomaine poisoning, due to bad food. A PICTURESQUE TRIBUTE. London, February 25. Lord Curzon, at the Geographical Society’s meeting, eulogised Captain Scott, Dr. Wilson and Captain Oates, and hoped that their bodies would he left with the snow as a winding sheet and the eternal ice as a tomb, with the solemn Antarctic wastes as a graveyard, in which it pleased God that they should sleep. “If we cannot crown him and his companions with a fresh laurel wreath,” he said, “at least let us lay our chaplet of monring upon their glorious graves.” THE EXPLORERS IN SYDNEY. Sydney, February 25. The Scott expedition survivors wore welcomed by Professor David and others. They stated that there was nothing to add to the details already given in New Zealand. THE SCOTT FUND. Christchurch, February 25. A theatrical carnival organised by the Williamson Comic Opera Company, in aid of the Captain Scott National Fund, was held at Lancaster Park yesterday afternoon. It was largely attended, and produced a. profit of £154.
