UNTIED STATES INTERVENTION CONFERENCE WITH THE REBELS (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) Washington, February 22. Mr Knox has announced that the United States Government intends to intervene to secure a fair trial for Madero. Mexico City, February 22. President Huerta is asking the rebel leaders,to confer with the object of securing peace throughout Mexico, President Huerta has announced that ho intends to use ex-President Diaz’s methods, if necessary, to secure peace and order, no matter at what cost. PRESIDENT TAFT’S VIEWS. v Washington, February 23. President Taft, speaking at a Peace Banquet, said that the United States would exercise every effort to avoid intervention in Mexico. She did not sympathise w(th the attitude of those advocating intervention for the purpose of gain or the exploitation of a rich country like Mexico. Discussing the peace treaties made between Franco and Britain, he said that he was deeply disappointed at the action of the United States Senate. It was absurd to talk about getting into a fight with Britain over the - Panama | Canal tolls, but America was ready to arbitrate. • i
