(From Our Own Correspondent.) Thursday. The visit to Whanga of the Tc AVera Tennis Club to-day had to be postponed on account of the rain. However, this afternoon the sun sur prised everyone by coming out at hi:, best, and the local players spent r pleasant couple of hours on the courts Tennis is taking a strong hold, anc we should boast a “star” team by next playing season.

Tiro Kohuratahi Cobweb Social wil take place oh Friday night, and ; crowd of Whanga. people have made arrangements to go up for the occasion. The novelty of the “cobweb,’ and the popularity of those in charge, assure for the event certain success

Tenders for stumping and levelling the local Domain closed on Tuesday and the work is expected to be finished before the winter. The Medical Association is steadily making members. The Association means business, and intends to lum a doctor hero this fail for certain. A farewell social and dance will be tendered to Mr and Mrs Calgher anc. family next Thursday night, February 27th, on the eve of their departure from the district. Messrs. Court and Cottier are erect ing a new and jup-to-date “boiling down” room in connection with thei slaughter house. The work is ex pected to be finished this week. This month’s railway pay went ol very quietly. Now that the gang are smaller and more scattered, wi miss the rush and hustle incidental to the old-time pay days.

Work in connection with the bridge in Tangarakau Gorge is now in ful swing, and Mr F. Grayling, contrac tor, expects to bo finished in sii months’ time.
