STRANDING OF THE EASTERN.
HEAVY DAMAGES AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT. (Received 9.45 a.m.) Brisbane, February 21. The Supreme Court in a special case found that the Government was liable for the stranding of the steamer Eastern in January, 1911. The company after the mishap issued a writ against the Government claiming £50,000, averring that the accident was due to negligence on the part of the pilot employed by the Government.
