Ottawa, February 19. . f The Dominion Parliament has adopted a resolution of condolence at the i death of Captain Scott. Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Mr Borden paid impres- ! sive tributes. NEWS AND NOTES. London, February 19. The newspaper funds have realised £BOOO, Mr J. M. Bai Tie, the novelist; who is God-father of Peter Scott, in a letter to the newspapers, asks the Government for a definite statement of the funds required. Confusion in the public mind is preventing free subscription. He believes that Lord Curzon was in error. The liabilities of the expedition were £12,000, not £30,000. The Daily Telegraph says that Captain Scott sank £30,000 of his private fortune in fitting out the expedition. Mr Austen Chamberlain suggests a monument to Captain Scott and his comrades at St. Paul’s, to he executed by Mrs Scott. Lady Ellison Macartney writes to Mrs Evans, paying a tribute to her brother’s great admiratoin of Captain Evans. Lord Beresford has written a similar letter, expressing respect and admiration. Sydney, February 19. The various funds in aid of Captain Scott have reached £2194. 1 ‘UNDIGNIFIED SILENCE. ’’ London, February 19. The Pall Mall Gazette demands that Mr Asquith should end the undignified silence of the Government regarding its intentions towards the Antarctic dependents,,as its inaction is paralysing the efforts of the public.
