UNITED FIRE BRIGADES.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. Wanganui, February 17. The Fire Brigades Annual. Conference commenced hero to-day, about 500 delegates being present. Superintendent Leaver, of Westport, presided, The President’s address made feeling reference to the death, oi the past President (Mr and the past secretary (Mr Gilberd). A resolution of admiration at the heroism of the Antarctic victims and condolence with the relatives was carried, and votes of .sympathy were also passed to the relatives of the past presidents (Messrs Gilberd and Mitchell), The executive’s report stated that matters in connection with the Association were in a satisfactory condition ,and the amount of assets over liabilities is £6-13 10s 6d. The number of brigades on the roll was 126. The accident insurance branch revenue amounted, to £320 15s and the expenditure, which .included death claims, was £193 3s 3d, leaving a profit of £127 lls 9d.

Pahiatua’s remit was carried as follows“ That a fireman granted leave of absence and attending all regular musters of brigades than the one to which he Belongs, such attendance to count towards long service honours with the U.F.8.A.” A committee consisting of Captains Glenny, McAnery, Scowra, Beveridge, Hean, Rolston, Nuttal, Lieut. Jones, and Fireman Williams, was set up to go into the question of establishing a benevolent fund in connection with the Association, In a rowing match Between the Gisborne and Wanganui Fire Brigade fours, Gisborne won after an exciting race by nearly three lengths.
