Competition was slack for all classes except 20-month steers and sheep. A good proportion of the entry was cleared as follows; 2.1-year steers £4 12s to £5 2s, 2-yr steers £4 Is, 18 to 20month steers £3 as 6d to £3 18s, bulls £l, empty 20-month steers £3 8s Gd to £3 14s, Holstein 20-mon tig heifers £4 14s, store cons £4 12s, fat cows £5 Bs, 2 and 4-tooth ewes and wethers 14s 2d, 2-tooth ewes (small) 13s, f.m. ewes 9s to 9s 2d.
On Monday, 10th instant, I had an entry of about GaOO sheep for my Ureui sheep fair. Buyers were present from all parts of the district and competition was keen right through the sale, nearly every pen being sold at the hammer. Two-tooth ewes yarded were small and were the least enquired for. The demand for full-mouthed ewes, wethers and lambs was good, every line of these classes being cleared at the hammer. Some very fine rams were offered and sold readily, the whole entry (over 100) being disposed of. The top price of 9s lOd for shorn lambs was obtained for a line of 400 very well grown lambs entered by Mr J. Whitehead, Tikorangi. 1 quote:— 2-tooth ewes 14s Id to 14s 9d, 2,4, and 6-tooth owes 13s to los 2d, f.m. ewes from 11s Id to 13s 4d, 6-tooth and f.m. ewes 9s lid to Its sd, 4 and f.m. owes 9s lid to 10s 2d, best f.m. ewes 8s Od to 9s Bd, others os 2d to 7s Gd, 2-tooth wethers 14s to 14s sd, and 6-tooth wethers los‘lid to IGs 3d, 4-tooth wethers 14 s Gd to 14s lOd, small 2-tooth wethers 13s Id, good woolly lambs 10s to 11s Id, shorn lambs up to 9s lOd for the best, and from 6s lOd to 7s 9d for average quality. Romney, Lincoln and Leicester rams from 2 to 4 guineas/
I had a small entry for my fortnightly cattle sale at Urenui on 11th instant, and most of the yarding was sold as follows: Mixed vveaners £1 10s 6d to £1 12s, springing heifers £5 15s to £Q ss, dairy cows £5 to £5 12s Gd, empty 15-mouth heifers £2 18s to £3 2s, yearling steers £2 5s to £2 8s 6d, 18-month heifers r.w.b. £3 12s Gd, fat cows £5 4s Gd to £5 17s Gd, store cows £4 11s to £4 14s, 2-J-year in-calf heifers £5 6s, bulls £5 ss. On the same day at Rahotu for my fortnightly sale and weaner fair, I had a very big yarding and a good attendance of buyers from all parts of the district. Good competition was obtained for all lines, practically everything being sold as follows: Weaner steers (best) from £1 12s to £2, small or Jerseys 19s to £1 Bs, best coloured weaner heifers from £2 3s Gd to £3 7s, good grade weaner heifers £1 12s Gd to £1 16s, small £1 4s, mixed weaners £1 10s to £1 16s, yearling steers £2 5s- Gd to £2 13s Gd, 15-month heifers £3 to £3 19s Gd, bulls from £3 12s to £0 7s, store cows £3 to £3 10s Gd, fat and forward cows from £4 11s to £G 7s, lambs Gs Gd, aged ewes ss.
Private Sales.—Very good sake been made privately during the week, particularly a very nice line of 33 grade Jersey cows on account of Mr W. H. Fenwick, of Tariki, to a Palmerston North buyer at £2O per head. I quote: Weaner steers from £1 11s to £2, coloured weaner heifers (good lines) £2 2s to £3 4s, 15-month steers £3 8s Gd to £3 10s, 18-month empty heif,crs (choice Jerseys) £4 13s, grades £3 5s Gd to £3 11s Gd, fat cows £5 10s to £G 12s Gd, 2J-year in-calf heifers 1 £4 10s, 3 to 3i-year bullocks £G to £6 7s Gdy well grown line of 2.) to 3year steers £5 to £5 10s, fat lambs 13s Gd, stores 9s Gd to 10s Gd, small Gs Gd, 6-tooth and f.m. ewes 11s 3d, mixed 2-tooth sheep 14s Gd, 2-tooth wethers 14s, 2-tooth ewes 14s Gd, 4tooth ewes 15s, fat ewes 13s Gd to 15s, team of working bullocks £GO.
