CRICKET. NEW SOUTH WALES v. QUEENSLAND. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) Sydney, February 16. The weather was showery and the wicket a bit dead for the continuation of the Queensland-New South Wales match. Macartney played another great innings, whilst Tozer was also good. New South Wales in their first innings scored 483 (Cody 39, Moore 52, Gregg 33, Macartney 154, Tozer not out 78, Scott 20 and Hassle 24). Barstow, Downey, and Hanity each took two wickets and Rowe three wickets. Queensland in the second innings has scored five for the loss of no wickets. LAWN TENNIS. AMERICA CHALLENGES FOR DAVIS CUP. New York, February 15. At the annual meeting of the United States Tennis Association it was decided to enter a challenge for the Davis Cup. THURSDAY’S MATCHES. The following will represent the Stratford Lawn Tennis Club in its matches on Thursday next: — A team v. New Plymouth, to be played on the Stratford courts: Cameron, Anderson, Crawshaw, Fussell, Curtis, Thompson, Wilson, Marshall; Mesdames Robinson, Paget, Budge; Misses Wilson, Mackay and Orbell. B team v. St. Andrews, to be played on St. Andrew’s courts: Rutherford, Wright (2), Jones, Vaughan, Jones, T.; Misses Mackay, D. and M., O’Brien, and Mrs Rennell. Any of the above who are unable to play are requested to notify the secretary. Coming Events. A team v. Inglewood, at Stratford, on 27th instant. Club Championships. The first round of the Stratford Lawn Tennis Club Championship was played during last week. The following are the results:— Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Mackey heat Mrs Robinson 9—7 y; Miss Wilson beat Mrs Budge 9—6. Men’s singles.—Anderson, R. 8., beat Cameron 6—4, 6—2; Wilson beat Rutherford 6—3, 5—6, 6—4 ; Crawshaw beat Jones 6—l, 6—l; Marshall beat Wright, P, 6—3, G—3; Abraham beat Thompson 6—4, 6—5; C. Wright beat Fussell 6—2, 6—5. The second round is to ho played before the 20th instant. SCULLING. PADDON DEFEATS FELTON. Sydney, February 16. In the sculling championship Paddon beat Felton by twenty-five lengths. The water and the weather were favourable. It was a good race for a mile and a half, when Felton was leading. He had, however, rowed himself out, and Paddon forging ahead, won easily. Time, 21min. 12 sec. Felton declared that there was no excuse. He was in the pink of condition, and was beaten by a better man. PEARCE SAILS FOR ENGLAND. Pearce, accompanied by Priddle, his trainer, sailed by the Gothic for England. He received a great sendoff. SWIMMING. I THE AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. Hobart, February 15. The Mile Championship of Australasia resulted :— Longworth 1, Smith 2, Rowell 3. Won easily by 45 yards. Time, 24min 2-ssec. FOOTBALL. IRELAND DEFEATS ENGLAND. London, February 16. At Association football Ireland defeated England by two goals to one. BOXING. POESY DEFEATS McKOY. Sydney, February 16. In the boxing contest between Poesy and Kid McKoy, the latter was knocked out in the eleventh round. BOWLING. DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, February 16. The Northern Bowling Association and the New Zealand Bowling Association’s Tournament was brought to a final stage on Saturday, when the champions of the New Zealand Association met to fight for the honour of the Dominion championship. United: J. Brown, jun., John Brown Win. Frasher, I. Wolfe (skip). Wellington : Kinvig, Leslie, J. D. Portoon s, N. Bell (skip). In the first match United won hr 17 to 16, and in the second match Wellington won by 26 to 16. The last head was not played in the third match, which was won by United by 21 to 11.
