The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.’s Report. Tho New Zealand Loan afid Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. and Reduced, (Stratford branch) report as follows: On Wednesday, sth instant, we held our usual monthly cattle sale and our annual sheep fair in our To Wera yards. There was a fair yarding of 250 head of cattle and 1 GOO sheep. We quote prices as follows: Mixed weaners 30s to 30s, coloured weaner heifers up to 50s, 15 to 18-month empty heifers 63s to 73s Gd, 18-montli heifers r.w.b. 87s Gel, 18 to 20-month steers 60s to 72s 6d, 2)-year steers StSs 6d, 3-year bullocks 115 s to 127 s 6d, bulls (small) 51s, cows 60s to 755. In the sheep pens we disposed of most of the sheep yarded at the hammer. Prices were as follows: Lambs (poor) 5s to 7s Bd, woolly lambs 10s to 10s 3d, f.f.m. ewes Os 3d to 7s Gd, 2-tooth wethers 14s 3d to 14s 9d, 0-tooth wethers 16s Gd.
On Tuesday, 11th instant, we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when there was a fair yarding of 450 head of mixed cattle, and prices were slightly easier on the whole than at last sale. We quote prices as under: Weaner steers (poor) 22s to 36s for good stuff, mixed weaners (poor) 21s 6d to 345, coloured weaner heifers 37s 6d up to 49s for real good quality heifers, 18 to 20-mouth heifers 60s to 735, 18-month empty heifers 07s Od to 72s 6d, 18-month heifers r.w.b. 70s 77s Od, 2J-year steers 87s Od to96s Od, 3 j-year steers 110 s to 1255, bulls (small) 57s 6d to 180 s for good sized beasts. Store cows 57s to 87s, forward cows 95s to 1245. We held out usual monthly wool, sheepskin, hide, calfskin and tallow sale on Tuesday last, when we had a fair catalogue of 09 hales of wool, 70 sacks of wool, 219 sheepskins, and the usual number of hides, etc. The wool was somewhat wasty and seedy, but anything good realised high prices. There was a large attendance of buyers and competition was very keen for all lines. The following aro some of the prices secured: Locks from 4jd to 4fd, pieces 5d to Ofd, bellies 5Jd to Ofd, dingy, matted and seedy fleece 8d to B|d, fair fleece Bfd to 91d, good fleece up to 9|d, lambs’ wool seedy and short Bld to Bijd, good clean lambs 9|d to lOd. Sheepskins pelts from Is 9d to 2s, medium inferior pelts with fair wool 2s Id to 4s lid each, fair to good 4s 6d to 0s sd, heavy 6s 7d to 8s Id, good woollod with sound pelts 9s 3d. Cowhides, light 6|d to per lb, fair to forward 7£d to Bfd per lb, yearling light 7£d per lb, bull hides from 5d to 7d per lb. Calfskins, medium weight lOljd, heavier lOfd, small and inferior up to 7d. Horse hair up to Is Od per lb. Tallow in tins up to 225. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. 'Ltd., and Reduced, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 12th instant:--
Tallow.—We quote present values for the following descriptions: Good ifiutton 38s 9d per cwt, good beef 35s 3d, mixed 33s 6d. The mutton market is inactive. Wheat.—We have sold an Australian cargo at 38s 3d c.i.f. The market is steady and there is a fair demand owing to unfavourable crop reports. Tho Indian outlook is uncertain. Messrs Webster, Dobson anti Co.’s , Report. On Tuesday last we held our fortnightly Stratford sale'. There was a large attendance and a good yarding of stock. Competition was good throughout, and, with the exception of 2 to 2j-year in-calf heifers, practically everything was sold at the hammer or after. We quote: Weaner steers 25s to 335, do. heifers 26s 6d to 345, colored do.£2 7s to £2 17s, 18-month heifers in calf £3 4s to £3 8s 6d, 18-month steers £3 12s Od, 2 to 2J-year do. £4 10s to £5, store cows £2 12s 6d to £3 ss, fresh and forward do. £3 14s to £5 Is, fat do. £5 7s to £5 16s, cows and calves £4 5s to £4 18s Gd, yearling bulls £2 Is 6d to £2 17s, bulls £5 10s to £lO Is, springing cows £6 15s, fat and forward ewes 11s to 11s sd, mixed 2-tooths 13s 4d. Private sales.—Dairy cows £7 10s to £9 15s, store cows £4 ss, £4 15s, £4 17s 6d, £4 10s, £3 18s Od, £4 7s 6d; in-calf heifers £4 10s, £5, £4 11s Gd, 2-year steers £4 10s to £5, 18month heifers £3 2s 6d, 15 to 18month steers £3 5s to £3 12s 6d, hulls £4 to £B, mixed weaners 355, coloured weaner heifers 52s 6d, 535, 44s 6d, 40s, 57s Cd, 455, 655, 50s, 555, 53s 6d; lambs 8s to 10s, horses £l2, to £l4 15s; 2-tooth wethers 14s, rams 50s, fat wethers 17s to 17s 6d, f.m. ewes 11s, mixed 2-tooth 12s 6d. Matthews, Bennett and Co.’s Report. Matthews, Bennett and Co. report that there was only a moderate yarding of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last. There was good competition, and nearly everything sold as follows: Calves .f 1 9s 6d to £1 11s, store cows £2 19s to £4 13s, bulls £3 to £6, empty heifers £3 to £3 Is, springers £5 7s Od.
