BOARD’S ANNUAL MEETING. The Domain Board met yesterday afternoon in the Borough Council Chambers, when the annual meeting was field. In the absence of the chairman (Mr G .X. Curtis), who is on holiday in the Southern Lake district, the Mayor (Mr W. P. Kirkwood) prosided. Messrs R. McK. Mori son and T. H. Penn were the only other members present, three being a quorum in the case of the Board. Annual Report. The annual report stated that during the year plantations had been thinned out where required, trees and hedges trimmed, fences repaired, ana a number of trees planted. The suspension bridge in King Edward Park was overhauled by an engineer, and on his advice new anchor rods were put in and the bridge generally put in a good state of repair at a cost of £l3 10s. Fern and scrub had been cleared and burned, where likely to be a source of danger from lire. The op orations proposed for the ensuing year comprised, planting as grounds permit, and the extension of walks in King Edward Park. The Board had granted permission to two of the
local tennis clubs to lay down courts in Victoria Park North, the work to be done at the expense of the clubs. The statement of assets and liabilities showed cash in bank £l2 1/s 7cl, cash in hand £- 10s, rents due £6 os' posts in hand £ls, and harbor rates (recoverable) £2 3s Bcl. Liabilities were, sundry accounts £6 7s Id. The receipts showed a balance brought forward from the 31st, December,\l9l of £27 15s Bd, rents of reserves <>i pastures £B3 15s, grazing foes £S 19s. The expenditure was £ll6 13s scl, leaving a credit balance of £ls 7s 7d. The Mayor said he thought the year’s work had been well done considering the funds available. It was a popular idea that the Board v.as an “amiably incompetent” body, but such was not the case, and anyone who knew what the Board had done, ar.c was doing, would know that this idea was a fallacy. Mr G. X. Curtis especially had dope yeoman service, and had accomplished far more than tnc public had ever given him credit for. Mr Kirkwood added that he very much regretted that Mr Curtis, through failing health, had had to relinquish the position of chairman. The annual report and balance-sheet were then adopted.
