Dottier has rejoined the Stratford branch of Mr Newton King’s business as stock auctioneer. Mr T. Laverty, of the Warwick road, leaves next Wednesday on a trip to the Old Country. Mr Massly makes a tour of the Turakina Valley country this morning and opens the Marten A. and P. Show, and leaves for Wellington by the midday express. Mr Will Diamond, of Bernard’s Pictures, returns to Stratford this evening, having sufficiently recovered from the effects of the operation recently performed in Auckland. The Premier was motored yesterday afternoon over the country through which the Sandon-Foxton tram runs by the Marton Chamber of Commerce. A Press Association message states that Mr Massey was much impressed by the fertility of the country. He was also shown the agricultural college sites. The death is reported from Cambridge of Mr Robert N. Buttle, aged 66 years. He saw service with the militia during the Maori war in the Waikato in 1863. He was for some time in Mexico managing an estate in that country. Returning by way of Europe he saw service once more towards the end of the Boer war in South Africa. . The death occurred the other day at Aberdeen of Miss Reid, a nurse ' who had been 20 years at Balmoral, and, like most of her Scottish servants, was a great favourite with her Majesty (reports the Gentlewoman). Not only did she nurse the Queen and members of the Royal Family, but was often sent to attend their friends in sickness. King Edward, following the example of his mother, but only in this later days, engaged a hospital 4 nurse to live in permanence at Court, and who was with him and attended him to the last.
