FARMERS’ CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY.
PROPOSED OHC AXIS AT I OX. Mr Geo. H. Buckeridge, the organiser for the above Society, met the suppliers from the various factories in the neighbourhood of Inglewood at the Public Hall at Inglewood on Sat- ; urday, at 1.30 p.m., when there were | about 80 present, most of the factories i being well represented. ; Mr Jones, Chairman of Directors of j the Moa Farmers’ Co-op. Dairy Com- , pany, was voted' to the chair, and I briefly introduced the speaker. Mr Buckeridge dealt very fully with the aims and objects of the proposed society and showed very forcibly the reasons for the formation of such a society in this district. He briefly sketched the history of co-oper-ative enterprise in the United Kingdom, and on the Continent, and then in New Zealand, dealing with the failures that have been made and the reasons of the failures, and then with the splendid successes, and appealed to those present to assist him and those working with him to make this the big success it should be. During his address, which lasted about an hour and a half, he was listened to with the utmost attention, his remarks being frequently applauded and at the close he answered numerous questions. It was unanimously decided “that this meeting of farmers thoroughly approve of the proposed '..Farmers’ Cooperative Organisation Society outlined by Mr Buckeridge on behalf of the committee and tint following gentlemen were elected delegatee to attend the general meeting of delegates to be held in Hawe’ra f Messrs Jones (chairman Moa Farmers’ Co.), Brown (chairman Maketawa Co.), Todd, J. B. Simpson, J. P. Stachurski (Ratapiko), and J. 0. Taylor (Wqiongona). On the motion of Mr Todd, seconded by Mr Dobson, a hearty vote of thanks was unanimously accorded Mr Buckeridge for his very able address. Mr Buckeridge, in acknowledging, said the best way they could show their thanks was to give him their whole-hearted support to get the society going as soon as possible. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated a most enthusiastic meeting.
