The Neue Freie Presse’s Constantinople correspondent reports that ChukriPasha wirelessed when he Jieard of the contemplated neutralisation of Adrianopie, that he would sooner v sacrifice his last man than surrender one of tiie strongest fortresses in the world. “If further insistence is useless,” ho telegraphed, “1 will take care to put 40,000 Bulgarians living here out of the way, confide the women and children to the foreign consuls, turn the guns on all the Bulgarians, then convert Adrianopie into a gigantic rubbish heap.” BULGARIAN VICTORIES, Sofia, February 10. A sharp engagement took place at Bulair. The Bulgarians drove the Turks back to the forts. The Turks attempted to descend to Charkeni, near the neck of the Gallipoli Peninsula, where the Bulgarians frustrated the landing of twenty shiploads of Turkish troops. The Turks lost fifty killed in attempting to land at Podima, northeast of Istrandja. INSIDE ADRIANOPLE. The inhabitants of Adrianopie are fleeing from one quarter to another, seeking shelter from the shells A CLEVER RUSE. Constantinople, February 10. A Turkish aeroplane reconnoitred at Chataldja. The Bulgarians deceived the Turks by means of clay dummies wearing military capes, and retired to Chorlu, strengthening the belief that the allies .are concentrating against the Dardenelles. THE GREEK FLEET. The Greek fleet has appeared in the Gulf of Saros. SERVIAN CONCENTRATION. It is rumoured that the Servian troops have landed somewhere in the gulf, in order to join the Bulgarians advancing on Bulair. AN APPEAL TO EUROPE. TO SAVE MEN’S LIVES AND WOMEN’S HONOR. A committee of prominent Turkish ladies and a section of the Red Cres-| cent have circularised the European sovereigns, asking them to recall the law of Christ and intervene to save men’s lives and women’s honor from' hordes disguised under the shadow of the Cross, who are commit- ! ting the most ghastly outrages and assassinations witnessed in Europe in modern times. FIGHTING AT SKUTARI. Cettinje, February 10. There was fighting outside Skutari on Friday night and Saturday. I Martinoviteh reached the wire entanglements from the Turkish entrenchments at Tarabosch. Fighting was resumed along the whole front at sunrise on Sunday. The Montenegrins made three assaults on Bardangloi. There were considerable losses on both sides. They maintained their positions. The wounded relate terrible stories and pay a tribute to the heroic courage of the Turks. HEAVY LOSSES AT BARDANJOLI (Received 9.35 a.m.) Cettinje ,February 10. It is officially stated that Bardanjoli, dominating Skutari, has been captured. The Montenegrin casualties were 2500 and the Turkish loss 1000.
FIRE DESTROYS A BAKERY. (Ter Press Association.) Blenheim, February 10. Scott and Co.’s bakery and confectionery factory in Arthur street were totally destroyed by fire last night. An explosion occurred in a partition of the building just as the bands left work. The building was an old orfe, and the fire spread rapidly, there being no hope of saving anything but a motor van and a few bags of flour. The insurances total £llOO.
