William Patrick Cramston was committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter. James Murphy gave evidence that the quarrel took, place at a cafe when Cranston struck Murphy, who, falling, hit his head on the pavement. At the inquest on William McMillan whose body was recovered from the Kareelah creek, near the Queensland border, evidence was given that McMillan was a member of a party of four. The three others returned to Kareelah the day after the party left, and reported that McMillan was missing. Death resulted from a broken neck before the body entered the water. No evidence was given as to how the affair occurred. An open verdict was returned. William James was committed for trial for shooting and murdering Ralph Albert Chambers. ■ Evidence was given that there been a row, in the navvies’ camp at Marulan, and deceased was shot while letting a vehicle through a fence. James was heard to say he would shoot the first man coming near. The Cockatoo Island dockyard dismissals were seventy, not 250, as previously stated. Melbourne, February 6.
