Captain Ring, formerly operating in New ZealaM waters, is promoting a , syndicate with a capital of £20,000 to undertake whaling near New Caledonia. THE NORTHERN TERRITORY. Melbourne, February 5. Conflicting opinions have been formed as to the Northern Territory. Mr Williams, visiting it for the Patagonian Welsh settlers, reports that it is a white man’s country. The northern portion, within the monsoonal area, is not subject to drought. Never in the history of British colonisation have such inducements been offered to white settlers.’ THE FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
