CONFERENCE OF METHODISTS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, February 5. The twentieth annual conference of the New Zealand Primitive, Methodists opened to-day. It will be the last to bo held before the Union with the Wesleyan Methodist Church is consummated. The Hon. 0. M. Luke was elected president, and Mr C. E. Ward vice-president. When Mr Luke was being welcomed, the outgoing president indicated that Mr Luke would probably be elected the first vice-president of the United Conference. PUBLIC SPIRITED CITIZEN. Timaru, February 5. The Post learns that Mr J. Craigie, M.P., is offering a generous gift to the citizens of Timaru. ft is a very handsome Carrara marble statue of Robert Burns, standing six feet high on a pedestal, of Coromandel granite, also six feet surmounting Timaru bluestono for the base, on which it is proposed to erect the statue, which will be shipped from Naples next month. Mr Craigie’s gift to the town during his ten years’ tenancy of the Mayoralty and since, include a fine avenue of trees, valuable gifts for the Art Gallery, and chimes for the new Post Office clock
