MISHAP TO S.S. KAPUNI.

STICKS OX A MUDBANK, A mishap occurred to the Kapuni yesterday morning as she was going down the Pateay-river intending to proceed to Wellington with a full cdrgo of cheese, says the Press. When earing the railway viaduct she was warned that there was not sufficient water on the bar to warrant her attempting the passage. Captain McIntosh thereupon endeavoured to turn her round with a’ view to a return being made to the wharf. Whilst in the act of turning she touched on a mud flat and was soon bard aground. A big effort was made to get her off with the aid of the ship’s winch and a hawser attached to the shore but without avail. A further effort was to be made last evening. The accident is a particularly unlucky one for the company, who had been making special efforts to get theii boats away on time, most of the loading of the Kapuni having been carried out by the men on overtime at the rate of 3s 4d an hour. The boat has sustained no damage through her accident. - '■- -
