BOWLING.

“Measurer,” in the Dunedin Star, writing of the Christchurch tournament, says:—“As showing the form of Maxwell Walker, Professor of Languages at Auckland University, as a singles player, a record of his games, before he got to the final is given: - He defeated W. D. Wyatt 20 to Li, T. Cherrie 20 to 3, W. Whittaker 15 to 8, A. Slater 19 to 10, J. Dey 16 to 9, G. Wedderspoon 19 to 10, W. Allan 18 to 5, J. M'Lachlan 17 to 11. This is a great'record.” All agree that the Singles finish was the most sensational gamp they have, seen. At first the play was: disappointing. AVido heads resulted in: Bentley’s favour till he was 10 to 3 after seven had been played. Then they' began to find the green, and Walker had a turn, each man robbing the other shot after shot, till the scores were 15 all, with four heads to play. Three to Bentley followed, and he then drew two lovely shots, but Walker, after failing with a drive, drew to an inch and got shot. It was great! Two more to Walker, and the< last head began with equal scores. That head is worth .describing again. Walker’s first bowl was jack high a foot to left of kitty. Bentley’s first was right on it in front, and touching. Without hesitation Walker drove bowl and kitty to the ditch, his own going out of bounds. The toucher rested four or five feet away from jack. Bentley’s second bowl rested about Bft from the ditch, and Walker’s third got no nearer. Bentley’s third did not alter matters, but the Auckland man’s fourth was the shot, on the edge of the ditch a foot away from kitty. The applause was .groat, and Walker was cheered as the champion. Bentley was not done with, however. (Bulging Ids green beautifully, bo drew firmly on to Walker'.-, bowl, and ran it into the ditch. Bentley was carried shoulder-idgii off the green, and both men were deservedly cheered.
