FEILDING SHOW. (Per Press Association.) The Feilding Show opened to-day in glorious weather, with very large entries, especially in fat sheep, horses, dairy cattle, and purebred Romney sheep. The principal winners so far are:—Fat cattle, T. Duncan and E. Short. Hereford Cattle, E. Short (both championships). Holsteins. Jos Liggins (both Pigs, A. J. Small (both championships). Ayrshire Cattle, J, McFarland, hull; T. H. Colpman, cow. SLY GROG SELLING. Gisborne, February 3. At Port Awanui ■ to-day John Morrissey was fined £3O for supplying a native with liquor, in default two months’ imprisonment. SPORTS PROTECTION ’LEAGUE. Pahiatua, February 4. A largely-attended meeting was held in Pahiatua last night, when an address was delivered by Mr A. Paape, secretary of the New Zealand Sports Protection League. ,' Mr Paape stated that the League now had 70,000 members. A strong branch -was formed here, and a resolution passed reminding the Government of the great injustice done to Pahiatua by depriving it of its racing club’s permit;, and urging that legislation be brought down next session''to’ remove the present anomaly.
