HOSPITAL & CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
There was a full attendance of members at the meeting of the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board this morning. Hr Steven, medical superintendant, reported that during January twenty patients were admitted, fourteen discharged, and one died. Eighteen now remain in hospital. Six operations were performed under anaesthetics. The gardener (Mr Officer) was given a rise in salary, and granted holiday leave. In notifying cases of scarlet fever at Tahora, the Health Inspector states: ‘‘As far as I can learn, scarlet fever has never been known to exist in this isolated district. Two Maori children died near the infected house, just previous to the outbreak, and the feeling amongst the residents is that the Maori children died from scalet fever.
