In explanation of the finding of the ship’s buoy and hatch On the west coast, the buoy bearing the name “Ulimaroa” and “Laira,” is explained. The Huddart Parker Company purchased the Laira for a hulk, and probably the barque’s buoys were removed to the steamer, and presumably the buoy’and the hatch belonged to the Ulimaroa, having been washed overboard during heavy weather in the Tasman Sea on the last voyage from Sydney to Wellington.
