MINISTERIAL MOVEMENTS.

NATIVE LAND AND RAILWAYS

(Per Press Association. ) Dannevirke, January 31

The Hon. •W. H. Herries (Native Minister, .and Minister of Railways) arrived at sDannevirke last night. A deputation waited upon him regarding local-matters, particularly with reference to the Tiratu Native Block, which the Government was urged to acquire in the interests of the town. The Minister promised that the Crown would purchase if the natives were willing to sell it at Government valuation. He was not in favour of compelling natives to sell land before it was individualized, as they would not have had the opportunity of working their places. Regarding a dangerous railway crossing, the Minister said the whole question of railway crossings was being considered by the Department. He has reports on all dangerous places with a view to devising some scheme to render them less dangerous. Mr, Herries left for Wellington at mid-day.
