WHANGAMOMONA MEDICAL ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF MEMBERS. A meeting of the Whangamomona Medical Association was held at Whangamomona on Friday night, Mr F. W. Court presiding over a fair attendance. In his opening remarks, says the Whangamomona correspondent of the “News,” the Chairman referred to the necessity of a doctor for the district, emphasising the facs that' but for the distance away from a doctor many who had passed to the great beyond might be alive and well today. Indeed, they had, he pointed out, had an example that day in the death of a young' child. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Klee (who agreed to accept the position at a merely nominal salary until such time as the Association is in a sound financial position); committee, Messrs F. W. Court, T. A. Bradley, J). L. Hatton C. E. Bacon, D. Wildermoth, T. Aylwaid, R. C. Shield, V. Klee and A. McMoekan. Considerable discussion ensued over the scale of charges, and it was understood that the Association would work on the same lines as the Ohnra Association, viz., pay a medical man a stated salary, all fees earned to he payable to the Association, which will have two scales of chargee, one for members and the other for nonrnemhers. The scale adopted for members was the same as that adopted by Ohnra, viz., advice at surgery or per telephone or letter, 4s; visit during the day, i.e., from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., ■ls; mileage (one way only) between those hours, 2s 6d per mile; visit
during 9 p.m. and 7 a.in., 6s 3d, and mileage during the same hours 3s 9d. Fees for operations, etc., were also fixed at a reasonable rate. The scale of charges will apply to members, their wives, and children up to 18 years of age, and also to widowed mothers.
Some discussion ensued as to place of residence, but this was left to the doctor. Particulars had been asked for by a northern doctor, but it is understood that the committee will advertise for applications. Before concluding the meeting, the chairman made an appeal to all present to endeavour to increase the membership. Already there are some eighty members of the Association, and the energetic canvass that is to be made in a few days should Increase this to 300. At a committee meeting afterwards, Mr F. W. Court was appointed chairman. It was resolved to inform the trustees of the old fund (which amounts to £135) what had been done, and to ask them to hand the money in hand over to the Whangamomona Medical Association. A committee meeting will be .held on Friday next, when the financial aspect will be thoroughly gone into, and the advertising of applications for the position of doctor for the Whangamomona district will be authorised.
