A severe earthquake was felt at four in the morning. RIOTING IN NEW YORK. New York, January 25. Rioting took place in connection with the garment workers’ trouble. Stones and revolvers were used to intimidate tire strike-breakers. Waiters and hotel employees have struck. A quarter of the hotels in the city are helpless. Numerous arrests have occurred, following the street attacks. A PICTURE STORY. (Received 8.40 a.m.) London, January 26. The Observer’s Paris correspondent asserts that the missing Gioconda never left Louvre. His version is that tne picture was damaged by spilling acid over it, and the story of theft was promulgated to save the officials. A SEASIDE MYSTERY. The wife of the Rev. Albert Knight, Vicar of Christ Church, Hunslet, saw her husband fall over Flamborough Head. The body has not been recovered. Several witnesses observed a similar man later in the day walking along the headland. Fishermen do not believe that, the body was washed to sea. LIBEL CASE WITHDRAWN. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Berlin, January 26. Lieutenant Brandon has withdrawn the libel action against the Westphalen Gazette. The latter declared it was misinformed as to the attempted escape.
