A FATAL FALL.

Whilst out riding, Florence Welsh, aged 26, was thrown by her horse arid received injuries from which she died two hours afterwards.
DEATH UNDER AN ANAESTHETIC.
Hastings, January 22
Robert Taylor, 59, resident of West Clive, died under chloroform. The anaesthetic had been administered, and an operation about to be performed for peritonitis when he collapsed and expired. At the inquest a verdict was re- t turned that death was due to peritonitis following on perforation of the gall bladder.
The Opunake Times states that Mr John Hickey, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. M. Hickey met with a painful accident on Friday afternoon, on the Eltham road. With the object of “running in” some of the farm horses tiiat had got out of the paddock 1 on to the road Hickey hurriedly mounted a hack that was near'at hand; the horse “played up” and threw its rider who was kicked. -The hock, or whatever part of the horse’s leg came in contact with young Hickey’s face splintered his right top jawbone and severely .bruised-diis-sufferer was brought into Opunake and attended to by Dr. Barron. After medical attention he was ordered -to the New Plymouth hospital. The injury though painful will not cause disfigurement, but it will be some weeks before the sufferer resumes work on the farm.
