(Per Press Association.)

Nelson, January 22

At the Anglican General Synod the Bishop of Auckland reported that the Bench of Bishops had arrived at a decision re the Marsden Memorial Centenary. It was proposed to establish a fund of £20,000 to foster religious education in the province. The objects include: (1) Contributions of £SOO a year, if necessary, for three years, for the Bible in Schools movement ; (2) for training and payment of a guild of church teachers for religion in schools; (3) for helping to found church secondary boarding schools for the Maori and the pakeha; (4) such other purposes as the commission deem to be connected with religious education. The above suggestions were adopted. A motion of thanks was accorded to Miss Reve S. Selwyn for a gift to the province of valuable historic documents. It was decided to place them in the Cathedral library at St. John’s College, Auckland. It was decided to hold the next general synod in Christchurch, commencing on Wednesday, May 3, 1916. An amendment to hold the synod at Norfolk Island was withdrawn.
