Councillor Ward is to be the recipient of a presentation at the special meeting of the Borough Council thus evening.

Miss M. Wilson, teacher at Mam Road school, was yesterday grantee leave of absence by the Board roi four months to date from March Ist, 1913 and Miss K. Wilson was appointed temporary head teacher during hei absence.

Master A. C. Aitken, pupil of the Otago Boys’ High School, who headed the list in the results of the recent University Junior and Senior Scholarship examinations, is a nephew of Mi s G. H. Boyles, of Brooxes Road, Stratford .

The funeral of the late Mr John Archer took place at the Midhusi cemetery yesterday, the service at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. 11 Metson, of the Stratford Primitive Methodist Church. The cortege was a representative one, including many friends from Stratford and Midhirst.

Constable Carmody, aged 35 years, in charge of the Carterton Police Station, died this morning. He leaves a wife and four children, the eldest being five years of age and the youngest four months. Death was due U the breaking of a blood-vessel on the lungs.—P.A. wire.

Mr George A. Smith, aged sixty-nine years died suddenly at Picton on Sataurday night. He was playing bowls till late in the evening, when he had tea and went for a stroll. A! ten o’clock a member of his family found him lying on a couch, dead. The deceased arrived in Picton from Newcastle-on-Tyne in 1862, and Inult up a very large business as a builder and contractor. In St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon Mr Ernest Percival (Terry) Fenton, of Mas terton, was married to Miss Joyce D. Fit/,Herbert, eldest daughter o : Mrs H. S. Fitzherbert, of New Plymouth. The News reports that the bride, who was given away by Mr AY. S. Fitzherbert, of Palmerston North was attended by the following brides maids: Misses Laurie and Sybil I itz Herbert, Miss Keitha Saxton, and her four nieces: Dulcie, Marjory, Betty and Patricia. ■ Mr Bert Whitcombt was best man, and the groomsmen were Messrs Austin Bewley and Gideon Pott.
