FIRE.

ANOTHER CAMBRIDGE BLAZE

SAME FIRM SUFFERS

(Per Press Association.) Cambridge, January 22

In the early hours of this morning Cambridge experienced another destructive fire, thus quickly following the extensive damage wrought by Monday’s conflagration. Messrs. Cjrowther and Bell’s livery stables were burnt right out, suffering loss to the extent of £2500, their insurance being only £1250. Yesterday they purchased the stables owned by the rival proprietor and transferred their business to those quarters. It was at their new stables that the fire broke out this morning. The whole structure, and practically the whole plant therein* was demolished. The sheds adjoining, belonging to local storekeepers, contained benzine, gunpowder, and gelignite, and there was great excitement until these dangerous explosives were removed out of danger. The firemen worked nobly, and, thanks to their efforts and tEe fact that no wind was blowing, the fire did not spread to the neighbouring properties.

Great sympathy is felt for Messrs. Crowther and Bell in their second loss of some hundreds of pounds, it being doubtful if any of their belongings are covered by insurance. The building, which was owned by Seth and Webb, and valued at £4OO, was insured for £l5O in the Ocean Office. The cause of the fire was probably an accident through careless smoking, but, meantime, a man has been detained by the police on suspicion of. having been on the premises at the time of the outbreak.
