AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.

MR NEILSEN’S RESIGNATION. Sydney, January 16, Mr Neil sen, in a letter dated San Francisco, December 7, to the Yass electors, announces that he has ceased to represent them. His resignation will take effect from January 15. It is in the bands of Speaker Willis. Ho gives as reasons for his resignation a disagreement with his party on a vital matter. He has decided to retire from politics.

It is supposed that Mr Neilsen’s letter is amongst the Speaker’s unopened correspondence at Parliament House, and it cannot be opened or the seat vacated till Mr Willis returns from New Zealand. There is comment in Liberal circles on Mr Willis departing when he knew that the resignation was in transit.
