Harkness will act as judge of Jerseys at the Woodville Show, which comes off on the 29th of this month. Captain H .W. Northcroft, formerly Stipendiary Magistrate, has been offered and has accepted the position of Resident Commissioner of the Cook Islands.—P.A. wire.

Mr J. V. Dowling, letter carrier, has been promoted to a cadetship at Weber, in the Dannevirke district, and will leave Stratford for his now duties in a few days.

Mr 0. J. McKenzie, resident engineer at Stratford, will relieve Mr F. Furkett, inspecting engineer, Wellington, who has been granted nine months’ holiday leave to visit England. Mr Furkett is well-known locally, having, seven or eight years ago, been stationed at Stratford. Mr McKenzie takes up his new duties on April Ist.

Councillor Ward said farewell to the Borough Council last night, after applying for, and being granted, leave of absence until the next election. The Mayor, in moving that the request be granted, said that he knew Councillor Ward to be a really good Councillor, and a very good citizen. It was not only on the Council that Mr Ward had served the public, hut on other public bodies he had showed himself to be a really energetic man. He sincerely hoped that Councillor Ward’s future would be a prosperous one. (Applause.) Councillor Healy seconded. He was sorry that Councillor Ward was leaving. Ho himself had not been on the Council half of the twelve years that Councillor Ward had been, but he knew that Councillor Ward had always done his best in the interests of the ratepayers. (Applause.) The motion was then put to the meeting, and carried.
