THE HOME RULE BILL
‘A TRIUMPH FOR ORANGEISM
The committee stage of the Home Rule Bill finished in the House of Commons. The Nationalists and Ministerialists gave cheers for the Government.
A resolution was carried, fixing the summoning of Parliament for not later than four months after the first Tuesday in the eighth month after the passage of the Bill. • Mr Tim Healy contended that the delay of a year was invented to permit the submission of the Bill to a general election, on the results of which the Irish Party were asked to gamble their existence. The clause represented a triumph for Orangeism. The remaining clauses passed under the guillotine.
MR BALFOUR TO MOVE ITS
REJECTION
In the House of Commons Mr Balfour gave notice to move the rejection of the Home Rule Bill on the order for the third reading.
