DOUBLE DROWNING FATALITY
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, January 11
A double drowning fatality occurred at New Brighton tin’s afternoon. A married woman named Mabel Higliet, 82 years of age, wife of Mr. Gibb Higliet, of Christchurch, was bathing in the River Avon at Herring Bay, when she got out of her depth and into difficulties. Her brother-in-law, John Higliet, aged 37, who was bathing at tire time, went to her assistance, but was dragged under. Both were drowned. Mrs. Higlxet’s two small children, live years and three years old, were on the bank of the river when the tragedy happened. Dragging operations commenced shortly afterwards, and the bodies were recovered and brought to the city morgue.
FATAL TERMINATION
Ashburton, January 14
As a result of the circular saw accident Robert McCullough died at the hospital this morning.
