DESERTING THE PARTY

The Boilermakers’ Society, with a membership of 60,000, decided, by 2090 votes to 2152, to discontinue affiliation with the Labour Party. The supporters of the latter regard this as a snap vote.
THE FIREMEN’S STRIKE
Wellington, January 14
The bclow-deck crews were still wanting on the Union Company’s Mapourika and Westport Coal Company’s Regulus to-day. This afternoon the companies announced their intension of allowing their vessels to lie up indefinitely.
