A conference of boot manufacturers is sitting in'* Christchurch to-day to consider tariff proposals for submission to the conference called by the Minister of Customs. SLAUGHTERMEN’S DISPUTE. There is no definite information locally this morning concerning the slaughtering dispute. It was rumoured yesterday that the men at Belfast would cease on Saturday. The general opinion is that work will continue. However, tho uncertainty is affecting the market, and at the Cust sale yesterday there was no demand for fat lambs. The usual buyers were present but they did not offer to bid.
HAZAIIDOUS SPECULATIONS
Auckland, January 14
0. E. Farrow, builder, was before tho Police Court to-day, charged, under tiie Bankruptcy Act, with alleged rash and hazardous speculations. Defendant was remanded for a week.
