HOSPITAL & CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held this morning. Present: The Chairman (Mr E. Marfell), J. McAllister, S. Ward, E. Hine, J. Smith, and J. Cliristoffel. DISEASED STOCK. The Diseased Stock paddock was the subject of a petition by local ratepayers, who prayed that the Board use its influence to get the Department to deposit diseased stock elsewhere than on the land at the corner of Borneo and Orlando streets. ‘‘Daring December, the petition alleges, as many as eight or nine animals at a time were held in the paddock foi a period of two w’eeks and over. The advanced state of disease was <-'ieb that one animal died in the paddock, and the petition set forth pla-nly some unsavoury details appertaining thereto.

Mr Christoffel moved that the petition be forwarded to tho District Health Officer with a request for attention without delay.—Carried.

Mr Ward was in favour of going further, as he did not wish to see the matter “pigeon-holed in Wellington.” He thought the matter should go before the Borough Council, and mevod in addition that the services of cur Member be enlisted in getting the paddock removed.—Carried.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES'HOSP i TAD. The District Health Officer (Or. Chesson) recommended that certain waste pipes, in connection with the new Infectious Diseases Hosnital, be altered and -brought into compliance with the by-law's of the Borough, as reported on by the sanitary inspector. The Chairman consider:*,! that the provisions made by the architect was better than that for which the bylaws provided.

Cr. Ward: They must earn their screws somehow.

The letter was merely received REPORTS.

The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Steven, reported that during Decern her 17 patients were admitted, 8 discharged, and two died. Four operations were performed under anaesthetics.

The acting-matron, Sister Myers, reported that the matron, Nurse O’Brien left for an annual holiday leave on December 25th, up to the present everything was p ogressing satisfactorily.

The sanitary inspector reported that a case of suspected typiioid fever at Whangamomona had proved to be merely influenza. There was nothing of a serious nature to Import in the Stratford district, and only minor nuisances at Strathmore, "Waipuku, and Te Wera had “a clean bill.” The reports were adopted.
