A WOMAN SHOT.
BULLET WOUND IN FOREHEAD
At about midnight on the 2nd hist. Lilly Lambert (23), a married woman staying with some friends in a house in Corona Road, Waverley (N.S.W.), was found in a lane near the residence with a bullet wound in her head. She was conveyed to the Sydney Hospital by the Civil Ambulance, where she was admitted by Dr. Finley in a dying condition (says the ‘Telegraph’).
It appears that at about 11.50 p.m. Hugh Cato, who resides near by, heard a revolver shot, and, with his brother, investigated, eventually finding the woman lying unconscious. Mr. Lambert, the injured woman’s husband, when interviewed, stated that his wife the previous night had gone out, with his knowledge, with a man who, he said, was a recent arrival from the country. They were supposed to have gone to a theatre, hut where they' actually did go, Mr. Lambert, who was feeling the . situation keenly, did not know. Mr. and Mrs. Lambert, it seems, had only been married a month. The wedding had taken place quietly, and only a limited number of friends were aware of it.
Mr. Lambert informed the police that the man his wife had been out with had previously been keeping company with her, for about eight years. This man was not aware of the marriage, and Mr. Lambert understood that last night his wife intended to tel! him everything.
Mrs. Lambert’s condition was critical, and little hopes were entertained of her recovery.
