TRAMS FOR NAPIER.

ORIGINAL SCHEME RATIFIED. (Per Press Association.) Napier, January 11. A meeting convened by seven ratepayers to discuss the advisability of proceeding with the installation of the. tram system almost unanimously do-1 cided to adhere to the scheme. The proceedings wore very lively at times, and the advocates of motor buses found a difficulty in making themselves heard. No sound argument ivas advanced why the original scheme should be departed from, but, on the contrary, a speaker pointed out that nearly all the tram material was now- on the ground. The motion in favour of asking the Council to take another poll of the ratepayers was rejected, and an amendment carried by a huge majority, urging the Council to prosecute th** work vigorously.
