Replying to a trade union deputation urging that the Trade Unions B II should be expedited to secure the advantage of a Parliamentary Act, Mr. Asquith was sympathetic. The matter, lie said, was simply one of time. He would consult with his colleagues. HOME RULE BILL. (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, January 9. Thirteen clauses of the Home Rule Bill up to the twenty-seventh were guillotined. Only two were discussed, relating to taxation. The Nationalists of Londonderry, fearing that Mr Leslie, who is a convert to Catholicism, would alienate the 1 Protestant Home Rulers, finally se- 1 iected Mr Hogg, a Presbyterian. Pmctically all the Unionist commone r a*! part from the front benches, are s-'gn- 1 ing the memorial affirming Oeir be-, lief in Imperial preference, their un-l abated confidence in Mr Bonar Law’s leadership, and that the best interests of the party would be consulted if ihe food duties were removed from the questions submitted at the next election. The Daily Mail ■ says that Mr Aus-; tin Chamberlain’s tact and good-will: removed the risk of the division of the party.
